In late 1995, my wife and I made a quick trip to Toronto: we'd won the trip plus tickets to some shows. :) We walked around a bit downtown. I was struck by how visible the poor had become since my last visit a decade before. Ten years later again, the poor were visible everywhere, including our home town. The lessons of collective charity and governmental goodwill to all, learnt by the experience of WW2, had been forgotten and the new age of neoliberalism was kicking in.

In early August 1995 several of the so-called Tall Ships arrived for a few days in port in St. John's and the Rose was one of them. It was built in 1970 but as a replica of a 16th century craft. At the time, 1995, this was a training ship for naval cadets or the like in the USA military service. I understand it was later sold to some California outfit that made movies. I'm still trying to catch up on my negative scanning. I'm doing them chronologically and today I reached August 1995. :)

In 1995 my wife and I were visiting monuments in Northern France, commemorating WW1 battles by the Newfoundland Regiment. This was looking out the gate of the one at Gueudecourt, a little park not much bigger than most homes in the area. It was pouring rain.

I'm always going back through old negatives and today I found this one from October 1997, of two friends waving at us through the train window as we were about to leave the station.
