Le Château de Villandry est le dernier des grands châteaux de la Loire érigés pendant la Renaissance dans le Val de Loire. Le donjon médiéval qui surmonte les douves a été symboliquement conservé et englobé dans le nouvel édifice construit aux XVIe et XVIIe siècles. Le domaine fait désormais partie du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. MEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE. Le potager décoratif est le point d’orgue, dans un style purement Renaissance, il se compose de 9 carrés de taille identique mais chaque motif géométrique mêlant légumes et fleurs diffère d’un carré à l’autre. Ceux-ci sont plantés de légumes dont les couleurs alternent entre elles – bleu du poireau, rouge du chou et de la betterave, vert jade des fanes de carottes, etc. – pour donner au regard l’illusion d’un damier multicolore. In einem reinen Renaissance-Stil besteht er aus 9 gleich grossen Quadraten, aber jedes geometrische Muster, das Gemüse und Blumen mischt, unterscheidet sich von einem Quadrat zum anderen. Diese sind mit Gemüse bepflanzt, dessen Farben sich abwechseln - Blau aus Lauch, Rot aus Kohl und Rüben, Jadegrün aus Karottenoberteilen usw. - um die Illusion eines mehrfarbigen Schachbretts zu verleihen. The Château d'Azay-le-Rideau was built between 1518 and 1527 on an island in the Indre River. It seems to rise straight out of the waters, which reflect the castle's façades so that the château appears to float in its own image.
