Trumpan Church View

Captured at Trumpan Church, Waternish Peninsula on the Isle of Skye. The church was destroyed in 1578 when the MacDonalds of Uist arrived by boat and landed under cover of fog. Finding their enemies the MacLeods at church they barred the doors and set fire to the church killing everyone inside. the alarm was raised and the invading MacDonalds were killed in the 'Battle of the Spoiling Dyke', - reference to the way the bodies of the MacDonalds were thrown into the dyke , their bodies deemed unfit for a proper burial I have added a song by Scottish band Runrig called The Greatest Flame www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKqUuZmLmeQ and a second Runrig song here Protect and Survive www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-EBXxdni7U Best viewed large I think. Tragedy, Triumph and the Fairy Flag- and the Photo…

Bench in the shade of Trumpan Church, Waternish Peninsula, Skye, Scotland In 1578 the MacDonalds of Uist arrived by boats, under cover of the fog and locked the congregation of MacLeods in the church, setting fire to the roof. All but one perished. The alarm was raised and the MacLeods killed all the invaders in the Battle of the Spoling Dyke. It is said they were able to exact revenge on the MacDonalds when they unfurled and waved the MacLeod Fairy Flag. There are several legends regarding the origin of the flag, one of which was that it was a gift to an infant child of a MacLeod Chieftan, and yet another was that it was given to a MacLeod chieftain by his fairy lover when she had to return home. Another suggests it was a gift from Titania, the wife of Oberon the fairy king. It was said that once the flag had been unfurled three times the magic, the flag and the holder of the flag would disappear forever. sobt.co.uk/trumpan-church Here is a song called 'Faerie Queen' by Blackmore's Night www.youtube.com/watch?v=inath9I4xc0

Stein Way HBM

This is the way into the pretty and tiny village of Stein, Waternish, Isle of Skye. The village boasts the oldest pub on Skye. Stein looked quite charming in the sunlight with the white buildings, the trees and the flowers along the walls, , and the road leads on down to Loch Bay with a small slipway. I have chosen Diana Krall's 'Wallflower' as a link here. It is quite a pretty and gentle song and Diana's piano is a Steinway, hence the title here www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy79rhPrGcU Best viewed large for detail
