1962 Triumph Herald 1200 - 769 NDE

12 Jul 2016 11 21 939
Came across this charming little Triumph Herald in Northallerton a few days ago and had a nice chat with the current owner. It has less than 50,000 miles on the clock, but neither of us think that's the genuine mileage given its age. It's also had a professional respray at some point over the years, but as the owner himself pointed out it's starting to go a little bit off here and there. Still, overall this car was a beauty and a rare thing indeed given it was manufactured over 50 years ago. That said, it is actually 1 of 3 that I currently know of in the town, which is quite weird really all things considered.

1962 Vauxhall Cresta PA - 690 GOP

09 Mar 2014 3 4 871
The Vauxhall Cresta was first introduced in 1954 by Vauxhall Motors as an upmarket version of the Vauxhall Velox (itself a six-cylinder version of the Vauxhall Wyvern). The PA Cresta is probably the most well-known version. It mimicked the American fashion for giant tail fins, wrap-around windows and white-wall tyres but in a somewhat understated way compared to the Cadillac and Buick models of the time.

If the E-Type is a bit too racy for you, then how about this rather more sedate 3.4 Litre MkII, also from the Sixties?

1962 Daimler SP250 - 3028 HJ

The Daimler SP250 was built by British manufacturer Daimler in Coventry from 1959 to 1964 and has a fibre glass body. The SP250 was originally known as the Daimler Dart, however Daimler were soon forced to drop the Dart name when threatened with legal action by Chrysler’s Dodge division, and the car was then renamed the Daimler SP250.

Until I came across this fine and, I'm guessing, quite rare example I'd never heard of Auto Union. However, having had a look on the internet, well wikipedia to be precise, I learned that Auto Union was actually an amalgamation of four German car manufacturers, founded in 1932 and which has evolved into present day Audi, as a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group.
