Look Closely Now ...

Went on a visit yesterday to Jervaulx Abbey in North Yorkshire and spotted these tiny little snails on one of the outer walls.
Then as I looked more closely I saw there were dozens, if not hundreds of them. No idea what type they are, but I thought they were an interesting find and it helped remind me that you never know where the next shot might come from.
Best viewed large on black for best effect.
As for Jervaulx Abbey, it was one of the great Cistercian abbeys of Yorkshire and is now privately owned.
It's well worth a visit if you like looking at old ruins and they have an excellent tea room too where they sell the most beautiful home made cakes.

This flaked buggy was another that drew lots of attention at the show. Sadly, I have very little information this one as the DVLA site no longer has a record of it.

Panhard is currently a French manufacturer of light tactical and military vehicles.
However, the company was originally called Panhard et Levassor and established as a car manufacturing concern by René Panhard and Émile Levassor in 1887.
They sold their first car in 1890, but sadly ceased manufacturing for the civilian market in 1968.

Another fine example of British motoring found sheltering in the shade on the fringes of the showground.
Always worth walking that little bit further at the shows because you never know what you're going to find!

Or maybe it's a girl ... whatever sex it was this calf was extremely cute and being carefully watched over by its mother.
As seen on the way into Mount Grace Priory in North Yorkshire and taken for this week's Sunday Challenge which had the theme of looking down .

Okay, so you're probably expecting me to say that this would make a good base for a hot rod?
Well, I'm actually thinking it's rather nice as it is ... must be getting old!

Okay, I lied, maybe just one more abstract today.
This time it's another orb of sorts. A square crop of the original shot as taken by me can be found in the Notes.

The theme for The Sunday Challenge this week was middle of the day ... as simple as that, or not as the case may be.
I did think about doing some arty farty macro style shots of a clock face or a watch, but I used an image of the clock tower at All Saints Church in Northallerton just a couple of weeks back so I rules those ideas out.
Eventually, I just decided to go take the camera outside one day over lunch, starting from just before midday until just after 1.00pm and shoot whatever I saw that took my fancy ... yes, I was starting to get that feeling of desperation that being involved with TSC can produce.
I took several shots around town, but the one I've opted to use was taken in my back garden. I noticed that the bright midday sun was striking a small pile of fallen leaves and creating some lovely shadows. It might not look like it was taken in the early afternoon, but believe me it was ... honest!

Another from the series of shots I took for The Sunday Challenge , which had the theme of At The Market , but which also extended to cover shop displays.
Like the shot I entered at the time entitled Jealous Heart this bowl was seen and photographed in Origins on the High Street, which has loads of stunning and interesting items of homeware.
If you're ever in Northallerton it is well worth popping in for a look around or check out their website:

1978 VW Passat GLS - LCW 222T

Following the Volkswagen Group's acquisition of Audi in 1964, Volkswagen used new engineering expertise to develop a modern front-wheel drive car with a water-cooled engine, and thus the Passat and Golf (the latter being introduced in 1974) were the first of a new generation of Volkswagen cars.
The original Volkswagen Passat, launched in 1973 and produced until 1981, shared a modern fastback design, styled by the infamous Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro.
This rather sorry looking 5-door version was, if you saw my comment earlier, I think a barn find of sorts. It certainly has that look about it and it was ripe for restoration/modification.

Always makes me smile when I see one of these as back in the Eighties my girlfriend's Dad (now my father-in-law) had one of these.

Some Scirocco detailing for you.
Must say I've never understood why they used a sticker to carry the Storm identity as opposed to a proper badge especially when the car was a limited production model.

Another from the Scirocco Register, this time a Storm.
The Mk2 Storm was available in 1984 in the UK only in either Cosmos blue or Havanna brown metallic. It was the first Scirocco to have the full colour coded body kit and large tailgate spoiler.
Numbers were strictly limited to 600 cars. 300 blue, 300 brown.
Probably worth pointing out that the headlights on this one are off a GTI model. When it came out of the factory the headlamps would have been the same as feature on my own GT model.
