The lighthouse at Bjargtangar in its present form dates from 1948. It sits on a high cliff. so the light's focal plane is 60m above the sea even though the building is only 6m high. This lighthouse on Iceland's westernmost point is also the westernmost building in Europe. We visited on a very windy day and only saw one solitary puffin on the famous bird cliffs of Látrabjarg, all others had either hidden in their burrows or were out at sea. Going near the cliff edge definitely wasn't an option in the storm;-)

Súgandisey is a small basaltic island sheltering Styykishólmur harbour. 11,5m high Hvalnes Lighthouse was built in 1954 and has been in operation since 1955. It stands on the cape below Eystrahorn, to the west are Lón lagoon and Vestrahorn.

Garpholmen skerry with its navigational light marks the entrance to Havøyund harbour. Havøygavlen in the background is one of the northernmost windparks in the world.

The lighthouse at the end of Castle breakwater marks the entrance to St. Peter Port harbour/ Guernsey. Evening is a busy time- the fast catamaran is leaving for Britain, the Sark boat and in the distance the Herm boat are heading into harbour. Landegode Fyr was built in 1902, automated in 1989 and listed as a protected site in 1998. The 29m tall iron lighthouse is on a skerry off Landegode Island (18 km north of Bodø) and marks the start of the notorious Vestfjord crossing to the Lofoten Islands. This historic wooden lighthouse used to be on Akaroa Head from 1880 to 1977. Rødberg fog bell lies at Raudbergneset in Trondheimsfjorden. The white painted wooden structure was built in 1919, is out of service since 1986 and now protected as cultural heritage. It retains the original bell. Rødberg fyrstasjon
