"Party Cakes (4)," 1933

I fiddled with the type a bit. It's on the cramped side, but nobody cares because they're dazzled by the picture, right?

"Party Cakes (3)," 1933

An hour later, "Little Bride" is fast asleep on the couch, worn out by her heroic kitchen toil. Her bored husband has another slice or two of that marvelous cake and reads the paper. Meanwhile, "Other Bride" is well-rested, so she and her Harvey Korman-esque birthday boy mend fences. They hit all the night spots and party 'til sunup.

Nowadays the kids would all be staring silently at their phones. :/ Dated September 2nd.

Magical Desserts With Whip 'N Chill (9),1965/70

The connection between trendy dessert and your elderly Aunt's favorite church hats becomes obvious as our ode to obsolete mixes nears its finish...

Hallmark Birthday Card (2), 1938

Card unfolded to give you a better view of the onions. There's a sheer textured plastic layer over them to make them shinier than the rest of the picture. Sorry I couldn't capture that better.

Time For Ice Cream (13), 1947/48

10 Mar 2020 1 219
From the last chapter: "Ice Cream for the Children's Party." The clowns don't look very cheerful, do they? Are they bummed out because the war is over, or are they anticipating the one that's still waiting in the wings? The answer is lost to history. The little girl facing Mother appears to be holding some fusion of a hammer and pliers in her right hand. On that confusing note, our saga ends.

"Big Birthday Show" (2), 1948

Ginger's really excited about seeing Part VII of that "Phantom Creeps" serial this week.

Whoa. I hope that's chewing gum Junior and Ma are enjoying while they wait, not tobacco.

7-Minit Frosting Ad, 1955

22 May 2011 255
This cake looks to be about 1 1/2 feet across. I'd give anything to know if it needed to be that large just to use up all the frosting in the envelope. (I kept the blanket care saga, because I figured she felt bad enough about not getting to go to the beach or to the birthday party.) From the September issue of Western Family magazine.

"When It's Party Time It's Canada Dry Time!" (4),…

These kids don't look all that "Gingervated" to me. Maybe the refined sugar hasn't kicked in yet.

"Our Family Dessert Book", 1960

Front and back cover of a recipe booklet published by the Continental Baking Company, Inc. That tower of white is described later in as follows: "Simple But Gay Birthday Party Cakes... Purchase sufficient Hostess Sno-Balls allowing one per person. Insert a candle in center of each and place on two or three tiered plate, or as shown on the cover." Birthday magic, all right.

Hershey's Recipes (9), 1949

Check out the party cracker in the lower left corner. We couldn't get the lion to lie down with the lamb, but at least Mary has persuaded the cat to party with the dog. (Other recipes in this last section: Cocoa Frosting For Mary's Cake and Chocolate Brownies.) I'm thinking that most of these recipes are still widely available out there, somewhere. However, if there's one I listed that interests you, just let me know and I'll be glad to post it for you.
