A warm summer night in Avignon is very pleasant with a bottle of chilled rosé.

Cognac is the home of the world reknown French brandy, named after the town. Martell, Rémy Martin, Hennessy, Courvoisier, Camus and many other Cognacs are produced here. In summer the town hosts, supported by hundreds of volunteers, the "Fête Du Cognac", a festival combining food, drinks - and music. Cold rosé is just perfect for a warm summer evening.

For me, born in Northern Europe, these birds were icons of exotism, when I was young. I knew storks from my neighbourhood, but they were noisy and just black an white,. The pink flamingos, I saw in books, seemed to be much more elegant. I watched them, sitting on the balcony of my hotel room. They indeed made no noise and waded very elegantly. Watching their slow moves somehow seemed to be very relaxing. But that could as well be caused by the bottle of rosé I had on the table. I just learned recently that a colony of famingos has settled some years ago in a fenny area between Germany and the Netherlands.
