Vieux-Mareuil - Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens

A church existed here already around 800. The parish church of today was erected in the 12th century. It got heavily fortified in the 15th and 16th centuries. Today the village only has a population of less than 400. They would probably all find a seat in the massive church. The first three bays of the single nave church are vaulted domes on pendentives, similar to Souillac (Sainte-Marie), Périgueux (Saint-Front) and Cahors (Saint Etienne).

Mussy-sur-Seine - Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens

What is the "Mairie" of Mussy-sur-Seine today, once was part of the summer residence of the Bishops of Langres. The church "Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens" once belonged to a collegiate, that existed here. The church, here seen from east, was erected in early Gothic style within the 13th century is in a poor condition and urgently needs care and renovation. The doors of the church were locked, but thanks to the "Office de Tourisme" we got the keys and so could "explore" the building. The ceiling of the nave has started to crumble. Here is the tomb of Guillaume de Mussy and his wife. They were probably donors of collegiate, so they got great effigies. Seen over their heads are their souls already in the "Bosom of Abraham". As I just saw on a video, taken in January 2016, that the renovation is well underway. www.facebook.com/100010359314521/videos/186028935085749/

Colonzelle - Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens

Already within the 10th century a priory existed here, dependent from famous Cluny. The single nave church of today dates probably to the 12th century, when the priory was depending from Saint Saturnin du Port in Pont-Saint-Esprit (30 km south west).

Pisa - Chiesa di San Pietro in Vinculis

"San Pietro in Vinculis" translates to "Saint Peter in Chains", though here it looks like "Saint Peter behind Cables". Remembered here is the liberation of Saint Peter (Acts 12:1-19), when Saint Peter was recued from priosn by an angel. A church, named "San Pietro ai Sette Pini" had existed here since 763, the Romanesque church seen today got erected by Augustinian canons 1172 - 1118.
