Plug in at -40°

OK, here in the north country most vehicles are winterized; equipped with battery blankets, anti-freeze protected for temperatures below minus forty degrees, and an engine heater that one plugs in during cold weather to assure the engine is warm enough to start.

Difficult landing

Yesterday I was down at the edge of my property, watching a bald eagle land atop a tree on the other side of the river. He had to corkscrew through the air a bit to line up with the branch where he wanted to roost. So! He was a bit too far away to study in detail, subsequently this isn't a rendering of that eagle. Instead it's a rather generalized raptor, going through a few gyrations to end up with his feet where he wants them! Yarka pan watercolors on Canson's 140 pound cold pressed, 9 by 12 inches.

Some of my new precious. Rene Haag, doing business as Blaine's Art Supply in Anchorage, held a reception/exhibit here in Fairbanks last night. I got out the door after spending less than a hundred dollars (but not very much less) :-)

To date this is the painting I am happiest with in my ongoing experiment of using acetate as a ground. Children's marker on acetate against a white background.

Story at eleven

Oh, two days or so ago my son was on the lawn tractor hauling my granddaughter and his sister (her aunt) in a little wagon behind. He hit a bump, the wagon tipped and Shaune, my daughter, and Sanoe, her niece, my granddaughter , thumped to the ground. Sanoe, my 2 year old granddaughter lay on the ground laughing and saying; "Now that's good comedy!" Hum, I wonder why i feel like I'm repeating myself? -grin- & oh yeh, photo taken by my son, Gareth, on my daughter's. Shaune's, camera

& captain

Shewolf asked me to upload some pictures of Captain Husky Tanner Thunderdog O'Neil, an aussie Shepard blue merle, husky (sled dog), wolf cross. Unfortunately most pictures of Captain were taken before 1967. We had a flood in '67, the water was over 3 feet deep in the old house and the pictures were stored at a 2 foot level. Alas these two were the best I found of Captain. Excuse picture quality.

As noted, the dog is aussie, wolf etc. cross. Most of the kids in the picture are Eskimo/Appalachian cross (mom is from Kotzebue, dad from the Virginias) except for the two that belong to me and they're Irish/Scottish etc. cross. Oh yea, we were down at Chitna sip netting for salmon. Oh yea, yea; There was a grizzly bear sniffing and snorting around our camp but I'm pleased to say no kids nor fish were lost! Captain, whom we took along for bear warning and/or protection, -what did he do when the bear showed up? He hid under the truck and didn't make a sound! Smart dog!!
