I've often asked myself what's the difference twix a scarecrow and a welcome mat? I've always answered myself, damnedifiknow. oil on 8"X10" canvas

sylvan3

So this is the third and final version of sylvan. As noted in v1 & v2.0, the painting is oil on acetate. In v1 & v2.0, the acetate was laid against 2 different colored paper backgrounds, In this, the final one, after the oils were dry enough I turned the acetate over and painted, with acrylic, a yellow ground 'neath the trees, water fall etc. and a blue ground 'neath the sky. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out and expect I'll do more work on acetate. oil on 8"X10" acetate

Oil on 3'X6' wood panel. The natural grain of the wood had a lot to do with how this turned out. I did this over 30 years ago. It's spent most of it's time since then living out on the screened in upstairs deck enjoying our changes in weather. It's seen extremes of -55 degrees to +90 degrees over the years. All in all, I think the colors have held up quite well. I've spent many a summer and fall evening listening to music, sipping a beer while sitting on the deck in silent communion with these guys. I have to admit, they're good company. What prompted me to upload it at this time is the really great 'on wood panel' that Shewolf is working on and viewable at her flickr site.

I don't know if I succeeded, but I tried to create a lot of ambiguity with linear and atmospheric perspective, etc.: How close to the wall is she, how big's the wall, how big's the world, is she holding a shell, a bowl or what? Who? What? When? Why? Where? Oil on 2X3 wood panel.
