O&S[W] - Big Tom {1 of 5}

16 Jun 2022 73
One of the largest "beefsteak" tomatoes I've seen, it measured about 6" across and around 3 1/2" high. That's a standard cherry tomato alongside for scale. Contrary to some previous experience with large fruit & veg, it was excellent quality.

shw[7-22] - extreme heatwave; part 2

06 Aug 2022 1 63
The second period of extreme heat was forecast over the weekend 17-19th July 2022, it produced the first RED warning for temperature and high alerts for medical and transport facilities. Another heatwave in the first half of August is predicted to last longer than this mid-July period [4 days instead of two] but may not reach 40degrees. A continuing problem is the near drought conditions. There have been a lot of "grass" fires, some of which have been escaped BBQs, others have resulted in the distressing loss of family homes. I hope that the idiots who discard lit cigarettes and abandon BBQs actually have a conscience and stop their anti-social behaviour before lives are lost. . not my image ; fair use & public information

shw[7-22] -UK fire forecasts & red heat warnings

06 Aug 2022 1 65
After a long period of drought conditions, the extreme heatwave forecast over the period 17th - 19th July 2022, also generated a "Very Extreme" fire danger warning. Unfortunately, some very stupid 1di0ts took the opportunity for committing arson attacks - as well as a number of accidental grass fires occurring in the same period. The results were devastating to the affected areas - including the loss of several homes in a couple of places ! . . Not my Image ; fair use & public information

shw[7-22] -UK heatwave weather warnings July 2022

14 Nov 2022 1 88
The second period of extreme heat in the summer of 2022 resulted in the UK's Met Office issuing warnings of extreme heat, including the first ever at the RED warning level. That is : TAKE ACTON - risk to life. Many places recorded vrey high temperatures, the hottest was on 19 July, when a temperature of 40.3 °C (104.5 °F) was recorded at Coningsby, Lincolnshire, the hottest temperature ever recorded in the United Kingdom's Met Office history. The hot and dry weather also saw increased incidents of so-called "wildfires" with significant levels of damage, sadly, some of these were actually deliberate arson.

shw[8-22] - hosepipe ban by water company, 9th Aug…

28 Aug 2022 1 64
The drought, especially in the southern half [more like three-quarters] of the UK is causing problems for water supply. The worst affected areas, as in low water levels in reservoirs and aquifers, couples with the higher demand from urban pressures, went for hosepipe bans and suggested consumers reduced usage as much as possible . . .
