This bench in Scarborough is reputed to be the longest platform seat in England (456ft). I was there for an Esperanto Kongresso; I had to wait for the opportunity to take this ...

It was restored in 2020.

In a £14,500 project during 2020, Network Rail staff have replaced all the nuts and bolts holding the bench together, repainted all the cast iron supports and replaced all the timber with Accoya (a treated form of pine that is remarkably rot-resistant.

The rebuilt bench should be good for 50 years, at least - although it will need repainting every so often.

This project has secured the future of the Grade II listed bench, which at 456ft (139m) is reputed to be the longest in the world.
