To me, consumption and other subsidies to this sector seem to go against the ideas of reducing the world's reliance on fossil fuels. Some of these amounts are eye-wateringly huge, especially when compared to the miniscule amounts spent on developing renewable resources. . . Not my Image ; Fair Use & public information.

These sums are intended to help less developed nations invest in things like renewable energy and appropriate technology schemes to reduce reliance on carbon-rich or greenhouse gas producing projects. One of the proposals to reduce demand for gas-fired central heating is the installation of heat pumps [air or ground source]. A major barrier to accessing this technology is the very high capital costs of installations, especially retro-fitting ground source pumps to an existing domestic building.
