Uncle Jake

30 May 2011 148
My mother had three brothers that served in World War II. Pictured above is my Uncle Jake in the barracks somewhere on Oahu. I don't know what he did to earn his stripes, and now no one's around to ask. I might just research it someday. Have a safe and festive holiday.

The Nation In Tears

Antique copy of Demorest's Illustrated Monthly including Mme. Demorest's Mirror of Fashions from June 1865. This issue contains "The Nation In Tears," a tribute in music to the recently slain President Abraham Lincoln, along with engravings of his funeral procession and this fantastic portrait, which shows the imprint in striking relief of the music on the reverse. Happy Presidents Day!
