HFF friends! A "Stately Gardens of Walthamstow" shot. I'm holding my unimaginatively named, but well loved "black dolly."

"Three Generations"

21 Dec 2023 9 3 171
Submitted for the Vintage Photos Theme Park monthly topic of: HOLIDAY GET-TOGETHERS Found in a free box in Newport New Hampshire, summer 2023. Written on the back in pencil "Three generations". I'm not sure if the man on the right is a very young looking dad to the man on the left - or if the person is being funny and counting the dolls. What do you think? The little girl is sitting on a stuffed puppy (At least, I think that's what it is!).

Birthday Party Gang

Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: OUR GANG (Kids gathered in a group portrait) On the way home from vacation, we stopped at a real old junk store in Newport, New Hampshire. Amongst thousand of junky items I spied a box marked FREE on the checkout counter with some really cool vintage photos - so I picked out a bunch. This was one of quite a few taken by a man who worked for some years at the town newspaper, and then opened a print shop, where he apparently worked for many years. I would guess this is mid to late 1950s, early 1960s. The photographer's name (written in pencil on the back) is William Patten. The birthday girl is the second girl to the right of the three little girls on the left front. She had a thin, dark bow around her neck and is standing next to the very blonde boy.

A Little Bit of a Theme Stretch

Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: SPORTING EVENTS OR COMPETITIONS I seem to have run out of sports themes in our family photos and the ones I buy and collect. No surprise there as we were not big sports fans on either side! So, I'm sliding this one in with a bit of a wink. We were just down in Sunapee, New Hampshire for the week On the way home we stopped at a real old junk store in Newport, N.H. (although I did find a really sweet hand mirror amongst thousand of junky junks!) BUT on the checkout counter was a box marked FREE with some really cool vintage photos - so I picked out a bunch. So... my stretch is the front page of The Argus Champion which has an article on the front proclaiming: 600 Youngsters Hit Sunapee Ski Slopes For Children's Day I believe this is the mid-1950s.

Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: MOTEL, HOTEL, TENT, OR ANY SORT OF BUILDING OR STRUCTURE USED FOR OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS WHILE TRAVELING. My husband's grandfather co-owned a house on Lake Sunapee, N.H. with two family friends in the 1940s - 1960s, so they would not have stayed here (as it was close by) - but they did own this postcard! This is an interior shot of the motel - and typical of a lobby in the 1950s/60s, although the piano and stonework are a little fancier than many motels. The back of the card reads: The focal point of our guests is the spacious lounge - with it's true New England warmth and welcome. [Shouldn't that be "for" our guests?] Photo by Woodie Style

Online buy. No information. I'm guessing 1950s because of the doll, baby seat, and chest of drawers. Let me know if you think differently.

Looking pained. I have the faintest memory of not wanting to sit there and having to wait until the picture was taken.

Back in the Day When Slides Were Slides

Note that you can't even see the top of the slide and stairs. None of those namby-pamby, wimpy 6 footers with covered stairs and pine chip surroundings! Lloyd Park, Walthamstow, London. 1956. Cool to see the London buses in the background. Must have been a parking spot for them. Brought forward for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of "At the Playground".

Brought forward this time for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme: CHRISTMAS IN JULY. My mother said (when I laughed my head off at the tree in this picture) that they were impressed there WAS a tree! (In 1955, this was still post-war Britain in many ways.) Standing L to R: Molly and Pat, family friends and William and Ann Gregory, my grandparents. Brought forward (formerly) for the Vintage Photos theme Park theme of "Charlie Brown Christmas Trees"
