Standing By The Wallpaper

Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: WALLPAPER (March 3 - March 9, 2025) My cousin Ruth and I, Fairfield, Connecticut, posing by the gold leaf wallpaper that my uncle had put up. He was a wallpaperer at that time and had chosen an impressive one from his stock to decorate his and my aunt's bedroom. Ruth and I are 14 years old. I'm not sure why black is so dominant in this photo. My hair was really medium brown and my shirt was navy blue. It's Christmas, 1968 and my family are staying over at their house for a few days.

"The Men"

That's what we called my Dad and Uncle Maurice when our families got together. My mother and Auntie Vera were, of course, "The Girls". This is at the Brown's house in Fairfield, CT. 1968. We spent the holiday there - great times. Anyway, here are the men striking a pose for the camera - which was Polaroid's "The Swinger" my absolute favorite Christmas present of 1968. How many of you can still sing the ad for The Swinger? . "...it's more than a camera, it's almost alive. It's only nineteen dollars and ninety-five." I have hundreds of those jingles in my brain. I can sing the whole thing if you want. lol It was such a fun, great camera. I can still remember the smell of that weird pink chemical that you dragged across the new print to fix it. I have tons of Swinger photos to upload. .

I just found three of these in old papers. They used to be put out every week in New Haven, Connecticut where I grew up as a teen (as opposed to New Haven Vermont pop.1880 where I now work). They were put out by the AM radio station most of my friends listened to before we switched to college FM. Amazing how many classics are here - music was great back then (says the old curmudgeon.) Lots of crap too, though.
