Roger and Violet West

Annette Lundbech married Thomas West and these are their children - Roger and Violet West. Violet was in the theatre and traveled widely. Neither one of them had children. I believe they were in Long Island, too. Kindly sent to me by their niece that I met through Flickr.

Coming Home Today!

31 Dec 2010 174
My father has been in hospital for the past few weeks (2010) - an infection caused some seizures. He was pretty out of it for awhile with no clear sense that he would rally around or be himself again. It's been quite a December. But here he is - back on track - reading up a storm and greatly enjoying the attention from all the nurses who think he's a stone riot. He's worked his way through the meager hospital library while awaiting his "release." Me: So, what did you think of the James Patterson book? Him: (Scoffing) It took me about four sentences to realize what a load of old tripe he writes!! (he's a non-fiction man all the way except for the occasional Agatha Christie.) He is absolutely thrilled to be getting out and coming home - despite all the laughs and appreciation he's been getting there!

Cardiff Relatives #2 1972

28 Dec 2009 232
My visit to Wales in 1972. Taken at St. Fagan's where a Welsh school girl stuck out her tongue at me! For no reason!! L to R: Sheila Murphy, my Dad's cousin, Aunt Joan, my Dad's sister and Kathryn Murphy (she was married but don't remember her last name.) She was Sheila's daughter and I wanted to BE her - she had her own flat, a cute husband, she was beautiful and brilliant and had sung on Welsh television when she was a child. While I was there she had just got her grant (she was at University) and had just bought the most perfect dress I could ever imagine owning. I had just turned 18 (days before) and couldn't wait to have a life like that!!

Cardiff Relatives #1 1972

Taken on my first visit back after emigrating to the States 8 years earlier. The relatives have come to meet me. I was staying with my Auntie Joan (in the pink dress.) From L to R: Gerry Murphy, me, Auntie Joan, Sheila Murphy, Danny, and in front of him his wife Betty and in front of Betty their daughter Sian.

Gudmund Andreas Lundbech

My grandfather who was born in 1895 in Denmark and died in Wales in 1933 of a coronary - my Dad was 12 at the time. I've just connected with a Lundbech from Denmark (through Flickr) who is distantly related. He kindly sent me lots of genealogical information about our family including the name of Gudmund's mother which my father never knew. My children's Great Grandfather. Wits' End

28 Dec 2008 1 301
This is my father, with the only beard he ever grew, shaved off quickly when it came in grey. He and my brother are standing under our house sign "Wits' End", which was 23 Woodlands Avenue, Rayleigh Essex, England. Once in the first year of Junior School - second grade equivalent - my teacher at Love Lane School, Miss Brawn, on a whim, decided to go around the room and ask kids what their house was named. It was all "Dun Roamin' and "Dingle Derry" until it got to me. I had never really thought about it, but when i said "Wits' End " the whole class (and teacher) exploded with laughter. I was so mortified! Years later, I read that Alexander Woolcott, famous Algonquin "Round Table" wit, had a house in upper state New York named "Wits' End". But it didn't really matter. "Wits' End" for better and worse was absolutely what my family were about.
