Photographed shortly after the departure of the 1200 service to Miami, the architecture of Brightline's West Palm Beach station can be fully appreciated. Brightline started operation in January 2018 making shared use of the upgraded Florida East Coast Railway (freight train corridor). This means that West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale stations are more conveniently located for the cities they serve than the Amtrak/Tri-Rail stations further inland (west). 200_3_P1080312R

Brightline is an express intercity higher-speed rail system operating since January 2018 in South Florida. There are plans to extend the service to Cocoa Beach and Orlando. American Airlines A319 N744P with Piedmont retro livery. I am a big fan of retro schemes. They often look wonderful on modern aircraft and I think that is the case here. This is the fifth picture in a short series from West Palm Beach and was my poorest shot which I have had to rescue with some amateur editing. Amtrak GE P42DC locomotive no 60 finally moves away from West Palm Beach with the late-running northbound Atlantic Coast Service train no. 92, Silver Star. Due out at 1.27pm (1327), it eventually left at 2pm (1400). 200_2_P1080722

The northbound Silver Star, train no. 92 and part of Amtrak's Silver Service, approaches West Palm Beach. Due at 1.27pm (1327), it was already about half an hour late. The locomotive in charge is GE P42DC no. 60, one of Amtrak's primary diesels, and I have chosen an unusual square crop to make the most of the elements of the picture. 200_2_P1080718SC

Almost wherever you go these days, on either side of the Atlantic, there are residential and commercial properties which have seen better days and reflect the straitened circumstances in which many of us live today. This 1920 house in West Palm Beach caught my eye for several reasons. It stands out on a large, urban plot and is evidently boarded up but the roof looks in good condition and there is a satellite dish. There is a wheelchair outside which I took, also, to be abandoned until a closer inspection revealed what appeared to be a figure in a sleeping bag at the top of the steep steps.
