On The Trail - 20 August 2021

A walk along the Old Town Rail Path in Swindon was a treat made better still by coming across this snail. TZ70_2_P1000542SCE

Grass Roots Movement - 2 May 2021

Patience, a steady hand, wet knees and a very capable compact made possible this photograph of a snail in Lee on Solent. TZ70_P1030540E

Recovery - 18 April 2020

18 Apr 2020 1 1 78
It had rained overnight and the morning walk was through air fragrant with rebirth. I like snails, so I was pleased to encounter this on my return trip. Meanwhile, recovery continues at a snail's pace. Current photographs are taken during exercise or essential shopping trips. Geotagging approximate. TZ70_P1020176E

The Journey From Light to Shade - 16 October 2018

17 Oct 2018 75
On an October morning in Lee on Solent, the mists had cleared and the sun brought unseasonable warmth. I was on a photographic mission of another sort entirely when I was captivated by this apparently translucent snail, beautiful and the smallest I have seen. Across a harsh surface, it made its way at, it must be said, more than a snail's pace, from light to shade. 200_3_P1080233C

After The Heatwave - 29 July 2018

31 Jul 2018 2 3 94
July 2018 saw a heatwave of unusually long duration and intensity but, towards the end of the month, came a break, temporary as it turned out, and considerable amounts of rain. With the rain, out came the snails including this fine 'chap'. Although the head is not quite as clear as I would like, the beautiful shell makes, I think, a worthwhile picture. TZ30_P1050196

After the Rain - 4 September 2017

04 Sep 2017 95
I like snails. I think it is quite marvellous to see them having a wander around after early morning rain. This fine chap had paused on a piece of paper, a sweet wrapper I think, and was wondering why it was not much like the surface of the rest of the driveway. TZ30_P1040593E

Snail - 14 April 2016

15 Apr 2016 116
My macro work is, frankly, hit or miss so I was very pleased with this. To retain my humility, I should admit that this is the only image I could post out of nine attempts. I have mentioned in the past that looking up can produce good results; the same applies to looking down. My usual pursuits are evident from the bulk of my photostream and the appearance of this lovely snail was a pleasant distraction from watching aircraft at nearby San Carlos airport, California. 200_2_P1090799

Snail Shadow (Mono Abstract) - 25 July 2015

25 Jul 2015 156
Last evening, heavy rain brought the snails out on the march, setting off in all directions. I rather like snails; they seem to like walls. Today, it was time for me to play. I loved the pattern of the shell, the texture of the wall and the shadow. Before editing, the shadow, caused mainly by me and my camera, seemed to emanate inkily from the shell itself and a b&w treatment seemed to enhance the abstract nature of the image further. 200_2_P1060115C2_HDR_M

Un Escargot Français - 21 Septembre 2014

02 Oct 2014 132
This snail, larger than those I usually see in England, was going for a walk after heavy rain in Honfleur. The background, which is simply the road surface, looks rather spectacular and other-worldly in this shot. TZ30_P1020306

Un Escargot sur Un Mur - 8 May 2014

After some tempting dampness, a snail goes for a walk on a local wall. I like snails. TZ30_P1020059

Un Escargot sur Une Haie - 20 April 2014

Imperfect macro, taken perhaps a little too hastily as this larger than normal (for this location) snail enjoyed a walk in the rain. Do snails walk? TZ30_P1020036

Banded Snail - 17 June 2013

17 Jun 2013 151
My photograph of a snail has nudged me towards trying to learn more about it as I do with many subjects. I think this is a White Lipped Banded Snail Cepaea Hortensis. A little moisture on a garden hedge brings out these beautiful creatures in considerable numbers. TZ30_P1000769
