German Food made in US restaurants

In the USA, there are some (native / 2nd gen) german restaurants and they work hard to replicate the authentic german taste. That isn't always easy as US has import restrictions and US health code differs from Germany & EU. The restaurants have to tailor their menu to the local (american) taste and available ingredients. Therefore you will find some types of "Schintzel" and a small selection of sausages and a dozen different beers. In most cases, the quality is very good but as mentioned above, the SELECTION IS LIMITED for understandable reasons but I wish they would add 2 or 3 more regional specialties to their "typical german" menus. . German Food I like -- from local Supermarkets

It isn't fancy, yet I wish some of this would be available in the USA. Some of these cheese smell -- that may be a reason they don't get imported. Occasionally some large supermarket chains sell "Limburger". "Frikadellen" are already cooked beef patties similar but thicker to those put onto "sliders". They have more seasoning. Eat them cold or warm them up again. "Schinken" can mean "Ham" or "Bacon" and these thin, red slices have been smoked and are similar to "Prosciutto " with less fat. At the bottom there's an egg salad and a Herring-salad. Herring is sold in the US but I haven't found this style of seasoned salad. . German_Food_Supermarket
