Public use bikes parked by the tram line stop at the Cascine Park. I wanted a tram car in the picture too, but by the time the tram got there, the light was gone :( That's autumn weather for you!
HFF and may you have great light all weekend long!

After days of rain, winter bare trees and fences reflected in a puddle at the Anconella Park.
Happy "We Can Upload Again!" Fence Friday, everyone!
courtyard guardian (PIP)

A black and white kitty was the only presence in the courtyard of this agriturismo a short bike ride from Florence. Agriturismos are a sort of combination guesthouse-farm. By law, a high percentage of the food they serve must be of their own production. This one had a thriving vegetable garden just across the country lane I was travelling on and a very pleasant (if nearly deserted in the mid afternoon) courtyard next to beautiful olive groves and an orchard. In the pip: a glimpse of a shady corner of the inner court, with a collection of old farm implements.
HFF again, from the Tuscan countryside!
new coat of paint

One of the public housing buildings (now probably owned by the former renters) in my part of town recently got a new coat of bright yellow paint that made for interesting contrasts.
I was told these public housing buildings were originally build to house Italian refugees from Istria and Dalmatia who were escaping the purges in Yugoslavia after the end of WWII. They brought their cultural habits with them and to this day every summer they get together at the nearby park for traditional dancing. This summer, couple dancing had to be eschewed of course and the program was substituted with open air folk theatre.
HFF everyone!

Stopped at a tire repair shop to ask for directions and noticed someone was watching me ...
I liked the regal pose of the dog and the strong colors.
Happy Fence Friday everyone!
the shortcut

A young woman slows her bike down as she prepares to take a shortcut through a pedestrians-only archway.
This is one of many city corners where it is still apparent how, in its progressive growth outwards, the city melded with existing rural buildings, in this case probably a farm with an arched carriageway that lead into the court yard (on the same building one can still see the small projecting volume that at one time was the "outhouse"). The medley of fences, gates and balcony railings from different eras also points to this progressive transition from rural to urban that took place overtime and lends this corner of the city its odd character.
HFF and Have a great weekend everyone!

Long morning shadows, fences and railings on a colorful building on my bike route to work.
In these these trying times, I thought a bit of color might be helpful...
Here's wishing everyone a HFF and a nice weekend!

in the main image: a fence melds into its own shadow at a country estate gate.

Arm in arm, an elderly couple crosses the Arno River on the tram bridge to reach the Cascine Park, while the evening sun casts shadows on the pedestrian walkway.
fences and light - HFF! (PIPs)

This week I'm going with a series of fence images in which light shines beyond or plays by the fence.
It seemed to go with the hope of seeing light at the end of the (Covid) tunnel ...
Wishing everyone a weekend filled with light! HFF!

Several fences with nearby trees caught my eye while on a walk at the riverside park.
In the main shot: public tennis court at the park.
In the first pip: a fence-bedecked riverside building by an interestingly shaped tree;
In the second pip: a colourful mini construction site by the park fence;
In the third pip: fences and trees with the houses on the opposite bank as background.

Just playing around with light and fences. HFF everyone!
In the first pip: a man with a hoodie walking behind the railroad fence cast an ominous shadow on the sunlit fence poles (I took this through a none-too-clean train window, so quality is not the best).
In the second pip: sort of a shadow selfie as the morning light cast long shadows ;)

Viale dei colli is the winding avenue that from the river climbs up the hill to Piazzale Michelangelo (Florence’s best known scenic point). This is the city’s most exclusive residential area, with many old mansions in various styles (and various degrees of repair) and with fences and gates to match. Here are a few (see PIPs) - HFF, everyone!
