Taken from Cancho Gordo. The prominent peak, right centre, is Pico de La Miel. The white boulder to the left, is part of of Cancho de La Bola, home of vultures for thousands of years, hence its guano stained colour. Mind you, the rocks below it have shared in this bounty too!

The far eastern end of the ridge of La Sierra de La Cabrera comprises this peak, It has good rock climbing routes on the far side and is a dominant landmark on the main motorway northwards out of Madrid, so it is well known to all Madrileños, even if they have never walked in the Sierra de La Cabrera.

H. A. N. W. E. everyone!

Looking along the eastern part of the ridge (or sierra) from Cancho Gordo. Pico de La Miel is at the end of the ridge and the white guano stained vulture roost is the prominant boulder on the next section, Cancho de La Bola.

From El Cancho Gordo. Looking east along the eastern section of the ridge with the Embalse de Atazar beyond looking very short of water. There was a very serious drought at that time, resolved in the nick of time by heavy rains in the spring of 2012. Now it is happening again; no rain to speak of since Christmas and the reservoirs are at dangerously low levels.

The gentler-sloping northern slopes at the eastern end of the sierra are littered with granite boulders such as these. This was a bitterly cold winter's day.

I remember this was a particularly hot day in late September.. The saving grace was that it was cooler than Madrid on the plain!
