Scanned from an old slide. My brother-in-law's pueblo in the Valley of the Jerte, famous for its cherries. This was taken in July 1982. The town has much expanded since then. My sister was married in the church there in 1983.

Hervas, Cacares Province. I first visited this town in 1986 and was charmed. This visit was in 2016 and the town had deteriorated markedly. It still called itself a tourist attraction but it was neglected, run down, filthy and it stank. A great disappointment.,

Bunuel made an important film about Las Hurdes, highlighting the extreme poverty of the area for much of the 20th century.

Birthplace of Francisco Pizarro, Spanish conquistador, the conqueror of the Inca Empire. There is a statue of him in the square. Cacares Province, Extramadura, Spain.
