I'd long forgotten this song but it seems a perfect classic rock song of its time, the early 70s. And it certainly sounds better to me today than when it was released when I was all into Hendrix, Joplin and so on! Sight and Sound:

We live on top of a hill near this crenellated house which acts as the admin centre for the local estate or 'urbanización' in Spanish. I like to think of it as a Moorish lookout tower (they do exist near here), but of course it's not, and is of fairly recent construction.

The summit of Cancho Gordo looking out over a foggy Lozoya Valley. In fact the whole of Central Spain was in thick fog that day. Leaving Madrid on the bus that morning and I had no idea if I would be able to get above the clouds! Here is the answer!

I came here knowing that if the fog didn't lift, at least I knew the paths back even if almost blind (I knew them so well, even this early in my visits here). But I hoped for more than that and this is what I got!

The granite Agujas (needles) of El Cancho Gordo, Sierra de la Cabrera, The fog covered the whole of Castilla that day and that is some fog! Only the mountain-tops such as this here peeked out from under it!

The fog on the Cornish coast can be thick and treacherous. It did become very thick a short while later but I had already reached my car by then.

A foggy December day. Worth it when emerging from the fog! Madrid was in fog. The entire 1.5 hour bus journey was in fog. 3/4 of my walk was in fog. I didn't know if I would break clear of it. But what joy when I did!

I like this boulder. It is about three times my height and has a commanding presence, even without this backdrop of fog in the Lozoya Valley. Sierra de La Cabrera, of course!

La Sierra de La Cabrera is really an isolated outpost of the Sierra de Guadarrama. As such, it truly was an island in the fog. In the far distance is the snow capped peak of Penalara, the highest mountain in the sierra de Guadarrama.

It was fun climbing through the fog not knowing if I would emerge from under it! Fortunately I did. And fortunately by this time I was familiar enough with the paths not to be worried about going astray in the mirk!
