We have not done a lot of hiking in Yellowstone though there are a lot of trails, but this is one hike we did years ago and is a nice illustration of the beautiful scenery that hiking opens up. This is Mystic Falls along the Little Firehole River. The trailhead to the falls is in Biscuit Basin. We did this hike in 2008 with our youngest daughter. While on this hike we had an unusual experience. The story is told with this photo: www.ipernity.com/doc/162835/22800807 .

This is Black Opal Pool in Yellowstone National Park's Biscuit Basin. To my mind it is one of the most beautiful geothermal features of the park, both for its colors and its setting. Biscuit Basin is along the Firehole River and the pool empties into the river.

These hot springs, Wall Pool in the background and Black Opal Pool in the foreground are in Biscuit Basin in Yellowstone National Park. Both pools were created by a series of natural explosions in the 1920's and 1930's.

This is Sapphire Pool in Yellowstone's Biscuit Basin. Its blue color indicates its scalding temperature and it is one of the main features of Biscuit Basin. After the Hebgen Lake earthquake of 1959 it became a geyser for a number of years but has since quieted down and returned to its present state.

Following the main road north from Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin we come first to Black Sand Basin and then to Biscuit Basin with its odd, dough-like formations. Biscuit Basin is on the F'irehole River and from the parking area the walkway leads across the river to the main features of the basin. This photo was taken near the bridge across the river and looks north (downstream) across the edge of the basin with Sapphire Pool Spring in the foreground and a trout fisherman in the background.
