I've decided to take break from photos of Big Bend National Park and post some of birds and flowers near home and of a recent trip. This is a Yellow-headed Blackbird, a regular visitor at our feeders and a bully that will drive away all the other birds and keep them away.

This, I believe, is a young male Red-winged Blackbird, photographed on one of our bird feeders. When mature the red markings on his back will disappear and he will develop much more striking red and yellow shoulder patches. A mature male bird is shown in the inset photo.

This immature Bald Eagle was being attacked by a couple of Blackbirds when this photo was taken. The Blackbird in the picture had just hit the eagle in the back and was circling for another attack. The Eagle seemed helpless to defend itself. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.ca/2010/06/whidbey-island.html
