My brothers and I arrived at our destination in Colorado in the afternoon, set up camp, had our evening meal and a few hours' sleep and then headed up to Maroon Lake. We arrived there about 2:00 am and did some astral photography over the lake and then wandered around waiting for the sunrise. This is Maroon Lake with the Maroon Bellsn in the background and the light of the rising sun striking them. We some hiking and exploring in the area that day went back to our camp in the evening where we prepared for our backpacking trip.

This was taken over Colorado's Maroon Lake with the Maroon Bells in the background. Shortly after the photo was taken the clouds moved in making further night photography impossible.

After watching the sunset and a storm at Big Sable Point we headed south at about midnight to Little Sable Point to do some astral photography. The main photo here was taken in the dunes at Little Sable with the Milky Way rising in the background.

When out recently with my youngest brother and a friend we did some star photography at Little Sable Point along Lake Michigan. The was the view to the east with the Milky Way rising above the sand dunes.

When in Michigan recently I went out at night with my youngest brother and a friend to photograph the sunset and to do some astral photography at Little Sable Point on Lake Michigan. We wanted especially to photograph the Milky way and this was one of the better photos I was able to get.

Photographed in Little Sable State Park on the east shore of Lake Michigan, this is the Milky Way with some of the surrounding stars reflected in a small pond on the shore.

This is the lighthouse at Little Sable Point on Lake Michigan photographed again a background of the Milky Way and the night sky. When in Michigan recently my youngest brother, a friend and I had gone to photograph the sunset and the Milky Way.

I was out last night with my brother and friend doing some sunset and night photography at one of our favorite spots, Little Sable Point and its lighthouse. The Milky Way appeared after dark and this was the first time I was able to get photos of it - still not everything I would wish, but better than last time. The lights in the south are the lights of Chicago across a vast expanse of Lake Michigan.

I was out with my brother and a friend last Friday night photographing the sunset and doing some astral photography along the Lake Michigan shore at Little Sable Point. I am still not very good at astral photography but am learning. These are some of the photos I took there, all of the beautiful lighthouse, still working, at the point. We light-painted the lighthouse with a flashlight for these photos and I adjusted the exposure and contrast a bit. I'm dissatisfied with the graininess and lack of sharpness, but some of that has to do, I suppose, with the movement of the stars in a 30 second exposure.

This was taken at little Sable Point on the east shore of Lake Michigan on an outing with my brother and a friend. It was very cold but we saw a beautiful sunset and did some astral photography as well, something they are very good at and I am still learning.

Little Sable Point is in Michigan on the east shore of Lake Michigan. I was there with my youngest brother and a friend photographing the sunset and the lighthouse there, as well as doing some astral photography. This was taken just as the light came on at dusk.

This was taken at Cap Rock in Joshua Tree National Park, another attempt we made at astral photography there, though the light pollution was far worse than we expected.

This was taken in the Cap Rock area of Joshua Tree National Park and the light pollution is from Palm Springs.

While in Joshua Tree National Park we did some astral photography, this taken at Cap Rock (with our vehicle in the foreground. We were somewhat disappointed, though, by the amount of light pollution from the area around the park.

This was another night sky photo from Aguereberry Point in Death Valley National Park. My wife helped with the light painting on the rocks in the foreground and with holding a flashlight and keeping time for the long exposures.

This was taken from Aguereberry Point in Death Valley National Park and was another attempt at astral photography. The photo was one of the better attempts, but obviously I'm still learning.

Still learning but this is one of the night sky photos we took from Aguereberry Point in Death Valley National Park. I say "we" because my wife helped with timing the shot, holding the light I needed to see camera settings and providing moral support.
