Durch zwei wichtige Zufahrtswege, rechts aus dem Taubertal direkt von der Doppelbrücke her und links aus der Vorstadt von Süden, bildet sich der kleine, dreieckige Platz in dessen Zentrum sich ein schiefes, krummes Fachwerkhaus befindet. ➽ Rothenburg ob der Tauber ist eine mittelfränkische Kleinstadt im Landkreis Ansbach in Bayern. Die Burg wurde 970 von den Grafen Rothenburgs errichtet, doch dieses alte Grafengeschlecht starb aus und die Burg wurde 1356 durch ein Erdbeben zerstört. Das Burgtor aus dem 12. Jahrhundert mit dem höchsten und ältesten Turm (PiP1) sowie die angrenzende massive Burgmauer blieben erhalten. Auf dem Gelände der früheren Burg ist heute ein Burggarten (PiP2) angelegt. Von der Burgmauer hat man einen herrlichen Ausblick über die Stadt und das Taubertal. ➽ ➽ ➽ ➽ ______________________________________ ➽ Rothenburg ob der Tauber (engl.) is a small Middle Franconian town in the Ansbach district in Bavaria. The castle was built by the Counts of Rothenburg in 970, but this old family of counts died out and the castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1356. The castle gate from the 12th century with the tallest and oldest tower (PiP1) and the adjacent massive castle wall have been preserved. A castle garden is now established on the site of the former castle (PiP2) . From the castle wall you have a wonderful view over the city and the valley of the river Tauber. ➽ ➽ ➽ ➽

➽ Der 1376/78 erbaute und früher nach innen offene Schalenturm trägt die für Tortürme typischen vier Eckerker, sechsseitige Scharwachtürme, zwischen einem Pyramidendach. Reisende konnten so von weitem erkennen, wo die Zugänge zur Stadt waren. Eine Legende sagt, dass der Turm nach einem Bürgermeister Stöberlein benannt wurde, der dort lebendig eingemauert worden sein soll, weil er im Städtekrieg Verrat übte. Unterhalb des Turms befindet sich heute eine Freilichtbühne. This way, travelers could see from a distance where the entrances to the city were. Legend has it that the tower was named after a mayor "Stöberlein", who is said to have been walled up alive because he practiced treason while the city war.
