Rothenburg ob der Tauber - Stöberleinsturm


➽ Der 1376/78 erbaute und früher nach innen offene Schalenturm trägt die für Tortürme typischen vier Eckerker, sechsseitige Scharwachtürme, zwischen einem Pyramidendach. Reisende konnten so von weitem erkennen, wo die Zugänge zur Stadt waren. Eine Legende sagt, dass der Turm nach einem Bürgermeister Stöberlein benannt wurde, der dort lebendig eingemauert worden sein soll, weil er im Städtekrieg Verrat übte. Unterhalb des Turms befindet sich heute eine Freilichtbühne. Quelle

➽ The half tower, built in 1376/78 and previously open to the inside, carries the four corner oriels typical of gate towers, six-sided guard towers, between a pyramid roof. This way, travelers could see from a distance where the entrances to the city were.
Legend has it that the tower was named after a mayor "Stöberlein", who is said to have been walled up alive because he practiced treason while the city war. There is an open-air stage below the tower today. Source
