A local walk with my Ipernity friend Toz in this interesting light allows me to capture a scene of this year’s drought conditions before our autumn rains started to fill this up again. Our walk took us along the left lane you see here rising to the next reservoir up. A good day was had by all.
Have a good day.
Yeoman Hey in Winter

Its winter again and here we see an appropriate view of one of the reservoirs of the Dovestones chain in Saddleworth taken some years back. Ahead we can just see the dam wall of the next reservoir, Greenfield reservoir. The main path here runs along the left side of the water. In normal times this is a quite place but at the moment more people than ever try to get here to enjoy the limited exercise allowed.

The second reservoir up, from the village of Greenfield, after Dovestones is called Yeoman Hey. A look here down its overflow which incorporates concrete water breakers that both oxygenates and holds back swift downward currents that might otherwise damage the next reservoir's bed . A double chance too, to see the local fences around here.
HFF, enjoy the weekend.
Danger-Autumn has arrived.

An Autumnal look at one of my local reservoirs –Yeoman Hey. As the early autumn sun starts to peek over the moorland hills to the right, they light up the natural warm autumn colours of the trees and gives a little warmth to the water reflections too.
This dangerous set of fences guards the entrance to the inspection well on this pier. (A sign of our times perhaps!)

I wish you all, a great weekend, Herb

From Yeoman Hey reservoir in Winter. A golden misty morning at my favorite walking and photographic spot reveals another fine scene. This is the second reservoir of three in a row. It a gorgeous view when the water is still, but today I have some very rare mesmerizing low mist too.

Wishing you all a Very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Looking down from Greenfield reservoir to Yeoman Hey Reservoir, on quite a dull day. This is my usual local walking area.
Lee grad filter used to darken already leaden skies.
HFF to all, and enjoy your weekend, Herb

Anybody who knows me will also know that I take many photographs of this and its sister reservoir Dove Stone. Here we see this very low indeed as work is being carried out on the dam. Normally this point is well underwater.

As water slowly fills up this reservoir again after our drought conditions, we see here the late light catching the dam and banks. I am here with our Ipernity friend ‘Toz’ who is accompanying me on my home favourite walk with his camera too.
He has already posted a couple of photos from this walk: www.ipernity.com/doc/2405228/51616400 and almost at the same place as this: www.ipernity.com/doc/2405228/51617628

Dovestones in the heat

As our temperatures rise to an unprecedented high, I take an opportunity just before the two days of maximum heat to take a walk around my Dovestones area again. I really wanted to get an idea of the three reservoir water levels and in that I was shocked. Here I am looking down on Yeoman Hey reservoir and I have never seen it this low in my 50+ years of walking around here. The Pip shows the next higher reservoir (from where I am stood.) Greenfield reservoir from the now sandy shore that is normally 20+ ft under water. Today our temps go to 35C+ before a general cooling down tomorrow. I think we can count ourselves lucky that we have some water at all as part of England and continental Europe shoots up above 40 today.
Nice full screen.
Keep cool and safe.

A broody image taken yesterday at my own Dovestone reservoir walking area in the rain. This image reflects my feelings regarding Russian missiles raining down on Kyiv over the last 24 hours.
At least yesterday the sun came out soon after this. I don't think it will be so quick for Ukraine.

A rare day of dry weather brings me back to my local Dovestones walking area and the second reservoir in the chain of three. Behind me is the dam holding back Greeenfield Reservoir. This view has changed since I last photographed it. The pine woods on the right hand side has now been thinned by about 50% in order to replant with more native wood species which will be better for both the environment and wildlife. See PiP
