Another walk up Chew Valley in the Dovestones Reservoir area brings us to this Silver Birch tree amongst the summer flowering heather. I am with our Ipernity friend Toz who is busy firing away with his own version of this scene.
The Pip shows my 2014 version.

A summer view of my local reservoir at the top of our Saddleworth Moors: Chew. A good steep hike to get up to here.

As mainland Europe swelters in another unnatural heatwave, here are a couple of local photos to cool you down, taken a few days ago. It’s one of my local reservoirs just a 15 minute car ride and then an hours hike to the top of these Saddleworth Moors. As can be seen, the water levels are down here too after our droughts earlier in May and June but all is back to normal again with our temperatures and rain. The PiP (adjacent photo) shows a wider view.

A trip to my local countryside retreat is always exciting and today’s weather is no exception. As the strong contra-jour sun lights up these trees and grasses to exaggerate their natural colours I cannot but help myself to shoot.

A much better weather day of late brings me to the bottom of our Chew valley as it meets the Dovestones round walk. The snow still lingers here in the shadows and the waters of Chew brook reflect some of the warm hillside colour.

"Its Autumn time, and at last, I see the golden soft lighting and colours before the leaves drop again."

Enjoy this scene which is fairly natural as the sun lit up the tree and foreground on this Autumn day. Moments later the scene was back in shadow.

A refreshing look at one of the many gullies in the Chew Valley of Saddleworth . Why these fences are here, I can never understand as there is neither livestock nor bigger wild animals here. Probably just remnant’s of times gone by
HFF, enjoy this Good Friday and Easter weekend.

In this European Tree of the Year 2020 we can enjoy another look at this fine Silver Birch here in Chew Valley, Saddleworth. A splendid tree in all seasons but with this almost surreal natural cloud background it is something else.

The steep walk from Dovestones to the top of Chew reservoir might be arduous but it has its rewards. Not least, this lovely Silver Birch tree. Another favourite tree for me with a few snaps of it now over the years. It looks good in all seasons but I do like it in this kind of light and background.

Since we don't appear to be having any real snow this winter, here is a shot taken a few years back. Another from the Saddleworth area, taken just above Chew reservoir. It was a cold long walk back to my car but quite a few photos taken like this.
