‘E’- marks the spot

30 Jul 2021 45 63 348
A double rainbow shows us where the treasures are hidden, just near the fence post with the letter ‘E’. This was taken as part of a series, in pouring rain, a few hundred metres from our holiday cottage in Aberfoyle, Scotland. The clump of woods on the right side also highlights the tree of which my earlier sprint with the rainbow arch was taken too. (PiP) HFF, have a great weekend.

Over the Rainbow

A super rainbow here in Aberfoye, captured at this place after a sprint in the pouring rain. In fact this was here for some time and displayed a stunning double at times too. The big central tree provides a nice anchor in my opinion. As is often the case with such conditions, a blast of super sunlight provided the perfect foreground colours. Enjoy full screen. Time for a rest -again!

Another very nice viewpoint above Loch Ard looking towards the holiday village of Aberyfoyle. A spot for picnics and contemplation after a steep climb to here. Enjoy full screen and have a good week.

Footbridge over The River Forth

11 Jun 2021 40 61 252
A short walk from our holiday cottage in Aberfoyle, we find ourselves at this wonderful humped back footbridge over this infant part of the River Forth on its way to Edinburgh. Of course a nice set of fences accompany it. See PiP for alternative view. The second PiP show my previously posted lichens found on the top of this rail. HFF, enjoy the weekend.

Dukes Pass. Trossachs.

We have already seen some photos from this walk but here is the essential seat at the top. This main photo show the view to the back towards the snowed capped ‘Ben Ledi’ range of mountain vistas. In front of us is the view back into the flatter lands below. See PIP. ~ Just to the left, in that view–out of sight, is the popular holiday destination of Aberfoyle. Enjoy full screen and have a good week.

Spring morning in Scotland

28 May 2021 38 61 305
This is the view from the bottom of our holiday cottage garden (and also the view from our large French windows.) Its early morning and the sight of the mist is broken only by the chirps and whistles of the many birds that inhabit this part of the Queen Elizabeth Forest. In fact a male Cuckoo calls forlornly in the distance. Enjoy full size and have a great week.

Trossachs National Park. - A hike from Aberfoye

27 May 2021 19 24 222
Just when we were starting to think that the walks around here were easy-peasy with all those flat lochs, then we have to clamber up here from well below those pine trees that you see. This is the start of the ‘Duke’s Pass’ hike and very nice it was too apart from the heavy wheezing. Enjoy full size.

Scotch mist

The phrase 'Scotch mist' is used humorously to refer to something that is hard to find or doesn't exist - something imagined. Maybe it was all a dream – it was very early for me after all here in Aberfoyle. And no, it was not me who left the red ribbon there for photographic balancing effect! (to stop the picture from falling over right-ways) :) Enjoy full size and have a great week.

Greylag Geese (Anser anser)

20 May 2021 14 15 215
Seen in a lochan near the far larger Loch Ard. This is the western form with its more orange beak. These live and breed in the North here, namely Scotland, Iceland and Scandinavia. The eastern variant has a more yellow beak and inhabits some parts of East Europe. They often winter in the Mediterranean area. Enjoy full size.

The Trossachs of Scotland: Mist in May

19 May 2021 31 39 325
Its early morning at Aberfolye and this is our first full day here. The last thing I expected was mist and so I jumped into my outdoor cloths and ran down the lane which overlooked these fields and local hills. I liked this tree and the horse was a pure bonus, as I felt the cold coming through my gloves and by-now very wet trainers, walking through the frosty dew covered fields. The mist moved around like a magic veil. Enjoy full size.
