A summer view of my local reservoir at the top of our Saddleworth Moors: Chew. A good steep hike to get up to here. Enjoy full screen

A Chew fence

A refreshing look at one of the many gullies in the Chew Valley of Saddleworth . Why these fences are here, I can never understand as there is neither livestock nor bigger wild animals here. Probably just remnant’s of times gone by HFF, enjoy this Good Friday and Easter weekend.

In this European Tree of the Year 2020 we can enjoy another look at this fine Silver Birch here in Chew Valley, Saddleworth. A splendid tree in all seasons but with this almost surreal natural cloud background it is something else. This years results of our best trees. : www.treeoftheyear.org/results Enjoy full screen

The steep walk from Dovestones to the top of Chew reservoir might be arduous but it has its rewards. Not least, this lovely Silver Birch tree. Another favourite tree for me with a few snaps of it now over the years. It looks good in all seasons but I do like it in this kind of light and background. Nice full screen PiPs

White Winter Wonderland

Since we don't appear to be having any real snow this winter, here is a shot taken a few years back. Another from the Saddleworth area, taken just above Chew reservoir. It was a cold long walk back to my car but quite a few photos taken like this. Enjoy full screen

Over here we can get some snow with blue skies now and again. Here is such a scene taken on one of my higher reservoir walks a year or so back, called Chew Reservoir near my favourite Dovestones reservoir in Greenfield. 2018 was a bleak time for this high area –it being devastated by moorland fires in the drought. That will take many years to recover but snow like this hides most things. Enjoy As usual, best viewed full screen on black. I wish you all, A Wonderful New Year and HFF, Herb
