Sea fret at Bamburgh, Northumbria

A first walk for us in bright weather on this long beach backed by large sand dunes. Within minutes our vision is dampened by this mist that swirls around us. Just as quickly it disappears again leaving us to think ‘what happened there!’
Sea-fret: a peculiar phenomenon which takes the edge off our warm summer days here in the North East – and it can be so thick and dark so as to appear like smoke. Officially known as "coastal fog" by weather experts and is caused by warm air condensing over the cold.

Cross Lake Bay beach

Our walk today is called the Cross Loop walk. The big sign is for ‘The wild Atlantic Way’ that we are also on. The walk started at the other end of the bay and continued inland by Cross Lake. As can be seen, this is a quite part of the world with not a sole apart from us walking on this splendid beach.

An artistic look at the beach and view towards the south on a somewhat breezy day. The dome is located on the disused RAF Portreath airfield and the tower is the remains of Wheal Sally.

Down on the beach 2

A brisk stroll on Perranporth beach is good to clear the head. A series of shots taken here in the wind showing the roughness of the seas and the cliffs almost hidden by the windswept spume.
Enjoy the adjacent additional photos too from almost the same spot.

A brisk stroll on Perranporth beach is good to clear the head. A series of shots taken here in the wind showing the roughness of the seas and the cliffs almost hidden by the windswept spume. Notice the difference in colouring here to my beach 2 capture showing what a bit of sun does.
Enjoy the next additional photos too from almost the same spot.

Staycation

Definition: a holiday spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.
As we park at the local carpark we chance to see this wonderful expansive beach full of people taking a staycation. We are at Lligwy Beach here on the north coast of Anglesey, Wales. It’s been a while since we have seen beaches full like this. Anglesey is a popular place for families from Cheshire and Lancashire to visit.
Our walk continues far from the maddening crowd.

The Wonders of Mallorca: Post card from L’Arenal…

We stumble upon this popular-with-the Brits beach resort whist flitting away our last hours on the Island. This is the kind of view that many British holidaymakers associate with Majorca - I think. Located exactly one mile from the end of runway 06L, we still have time for a last Sangria before entering the airport, losing the rented car and boarding our plane. Alas, all good things must come to an end! See PiP
That concludes my visit to Mallorca series, I hope that you enjoyed it.

Runswick Bay – dog walk beach and valley exit
25 Oct 2020 |

As we set off across this sea-weed strewn beach, our exit is just up a sharp steep valley to the right of the nearest people. It seems a favourite place for dog walkers but for us the many sand-flies here caused by this weed is a bit of a put-off. The PiP's shows the climb out of the beach, through the small stream, over a bridge then a big flight of steps to the headland. On viewing the vertical plank photo you can also see some of the many flies hovering in the sky. Fortunately we left them all behind here.

The Wonders of Mallorca: Port de Sóller – Misty M…

2014: A brief one week visit to Port de Sóller on the Baleriac Island of Mallorca (Marjorca) brings back happy memories. I took many photos as usual and I present to you now some of those.
This first one was taken from our hotel front after a night of heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Behind the port promenade frontage is a natural wilderness and steep mountain foothills. The lighting effect here is caused by thick ground mist in the fields rising to obscure the hillside trees which can just be made out.

Storm at Rossbeigh

After a night of torrential rain, the day starts wet and very windy with gust up to 70mph. Anyway, not deterred, we took to the beach that we could see clearly form our lounge window. As you can see, with the wind blowing spume and sand everywhere - this was not for the feint hearted with an expensive camera kit in hand. Forgive the slight softness of the picture here, I had to wipe my lens a few times to rid salt water and sand :) About a mile of this walk before we gave up and retreated for coffee back in the warmth.
Memories of Tuscany: Marina di Bibbona

|
Just about 10km south from our accommodation at Cecina is this small but pleasant seaside resort of Mariana di Bibbona. Like lots of the beaches around here, many places are reserved for those that are willing to pay. I – well, I wander around with my camera looking for scenes like this, and I very seldom sit down to sun-bathe. Hope you enjoyed this free view as much as I did. Especially in full screen
Ps - We will visit the hillside village of Bibbona later.
Memories of Tuscany: Marina di Cecina

Our first full chance to relax before seeing our accommodation. Here we are at our local beach of Cecina with a sight that we would never ever see back home in Britain. Matched sun-umbrellas and chairs all lined up in an orderly fashion. Of course, demonstrating that certain Italian flair of matching harmony with nature.
