It is not uncommon refering to photography to find the idea that a photo is something above ( or beneath) discussion.
A photo accordingly to this idea cannot be defined, can only be appreciated without more investigation.
It is the idea that a photo gives its self explanation.
The fact however is that comments, specially when made by the author himself, throw a light on the work bringing the creation from the realm of irrationality.
The Kertesz's comment, for example, is of great help to understand his concept about photography and therefore better also understand and appreciate his work.
