So, the world of console gaming will face some big challenges in the next gen. In particular, gamers should be challenging the companies.

Microsoft announced their Xbox One recently to a lot of criticism. For me, the biggest issue was the announcement for used games. The new system will not allow games purchased second hand to be played on it without first paying a fee to buy a new license. This also means you can't borrow games from friends to play them.

In addition to this, the system must "check in" every 24 hrs with the Xbox servers. More control out of the users hands. And, of course there's Kinect bundled with each system; listening and watching all you do.

Crazy.

Now people are waiting to see what Sony has to say at E3. They mention nothing in their PS4 announcement about such stringent Digital Rights Management, but there's concern that they may follow suit. It would be hard not to and upset all those publishers. If that's the case, there will be no new Xbox or PS4 entering my home. So whatever Sony has to say, there's a good chance it will set the groundwork for what my gaming activity looks like for the next 7-10 years.
