6/3/2014: From our garden - Tony James
After an abysmal early part of 2014, I finally plucked up courage to put my moth trap out last night and was pleasantly surprised! Not huge numbers yet, but a good representation of our Spring moths:

Orthosia gothica (Hebrew Character) 3, Orthosia cerasi (Common Quaker) 3, Conistra rubiginea (Dotted Chestnut) 1, Xylocampa areola (Early Grey) 1, Biston strataria (Oak Beauty) 1, Selenia dentaria (Early Thorn) 2, Agriopis marginata (Dotted Border) 1, Colostygia multistrigaria (Mottled Grey) 1.

The most notable of this catch was the Dotted Chestnut (Picture added). It is only the second specimen recorded in our garden since 1990, and only the third we've recorded around the County.
