November 2016 - Brown

Colour has been the theme in several contests across the languages, red, green, blue, yellow, white.
For a change I suggest brown, perhaps not as exciting as the bright colours, but to be found across many subjects, that there should be no trouble finding a suitable photo. To avoid the entries being too diverse, I would like it restricted to the natural world, that is excluding man made objects, whether painted brown, or wooden furniture.

I don't like the theme.Rob! Where do you think we will find 3 brown natural things? Do you think maybe animals? a leaf? Please tell some example. Thanks.

But there is time for me to think of another theme, and a reason for this announcement thread is to get feed back. So who else would like to see a different theme?

Do we have to find 3 photos for the 'Brown' theme? That could be difficult, but not impossible. But as you are starting SPC in Ipernity now I think it should maybe be a more obvious theme.

I presume that if I find 3 photos in my archive that will fit, I won't be able to post them yet. ;-)

You have to upload them in the Voting machine,Amelia, as it was always.In your entry. The whole game is in the Voting Machine votingmachines.panoramiogames.com/index.php, I see you are registered from 2014, why did you say you are not? Once you are logged in you will open your entry and see you can upload directly from your computer. All together or one at a time. Don't forget to delete the name(watermark) and frame if you have it, but the exif data can be left as it is removed by the upload process.

Come puoi vedere le 18 foto inserire ad oggi sono state tutte approvate.
Come moderatore non posso darti consigli su quali foto sono da prendere ad esempio....ma tu puoi capire quali sono le soluzioni destinate a riscuotere maggiori consensi !

Scusa Paolo,ma forse dovresti essere più preciso, una cosa sono i fiori per abbelire una città(Anche qui vanno bene i giardini o solo quelli diciamo provvisori, per dare il benvenuto). altro i fiori in casa, va bene un mazzo di fiori in casa mia?.

Mi pare chiaro quello che ho scritto...i giardini fioriti vanno bene, i fiori in casa tua no, i fiori sul tuo davanzale o fuori dal portone si....i fiori al cimitero no...in chiesa no.
Le grandi infiorate che fanno, in primavera, a Funchal o a Tenerife o a Sanremo ecc. vanno bene.
Insomma deve essere evidente il senso di accoglienza (colori e profumi).

PS a parere mio soggettivo forse sarebbe oppportuno tenere fino alla fine i voti segreti, credo che ci sarebbero più partecipanti e meno calcoli su a chi darli.

Ciao, sono pienamente d 'accordo sul fatto di tenere i voti segreti fino alla fine....ma non ci sono mai riuscito perchè ho ricevuto inviti e pressioni dai concorrenti a fare il contrario....anzi ,più di una volta, il moderatore nazionale è intervenuto ad approvare i voti senza neppure avvertirmi. Mi riferisco a quando sono stato moderatore ovviamente.

E io mi sono dimenticata di votare.

Magari non votare sempre per ultimi, specialmente quando si è moderatori i quali hanno la possibilità di vedere i voti altrui. Anzi io proporrei che quando si è MODERATORE sarebbe opportuno di votare per primo, ciao a tutti buona serata bruno

io penso che la soluzione ideale sarebbe che il moderatore di turno perdesse il diritto al voto ma in compenso la non penalità del mancato voto. così sarebbe fuori da qualsiasi sospetto ! riceverebbe i voti altrui senza poterli (o doverli) ricambiare (ottima cosa)
Oggi se il moderatore vota per primo (conoscendo gli autori delle foto) potrebbe influenzare in qualche modo il futuro voto degli altri, per cui non va bene...se invece vota per ultimo non può cambiare il risultato dei voti raccolti e quindi 'nessun pericolo'.
Questo problema è chiaramente dovuto alla scarsità di partecipanti e penso che non sia sanabile per cui penso che (se tutti d'accordo) sia da proporre (Rob Stamp) un cambiamento della regola per cui il moderatore del mese partecipa con foto anonime - non può votare - non subisce il voto di penalità - non può influire sul risultato finale - se ha messo buone foto ha possibilità di successo ecc.

Non so se si capisce quello che ho scritto.....aspetto un parere da tutti Voi.

I voti raccolti no non li cambia, ma magari non vota le foto che potrebbero sorpassare le sue magari appena un punto avanti, basta vedere le votazioni dei mesi scorsi, più lampante di così?

I have been following these comments, and started this reply yesterday.

My thanks to Maria for trying to raise interest in the SPC. My attempts have failed too, the last new registration was July 2016, recent recruit Steve was already registered for VMC since 2012.

I assume people at ipernity do not want to upload photos to an unknown site, at reduced resolution, with no watermark, where they have no control over their photos, and very few people will see them. The voting has to be done using the voting machine, which is not adapted for touch screen devices, and several CWP players choose not to use.

There is also the trouble of having to register, and remember, yet another user name and password, and having to login. And finally, why enter a competition when you cannot use your best photos, because they are already uploaded to your gallery. Ok, so it is a game, for fun amongst friends, to test ones skill, but how to promote that to attract new players?

The site is all in English, the rules are complicated, so that anyone that does take a look, is not inclined to proceed. Only long time players from Panoramio are still playing.

When a player chooses to “Lock my votes”, they do not see who has voted or which photos those players voted for, which was possible when voting was in the Panoramio forum. They do not see the photographer’s name, they do not see photo title. They only see how many votes each photo has received, including the progress of their own. That was the purpose of the feature.

In the last contest, only 3 of 9 voters used the “Lock my votes” option, so while I do not see it being a problem, I might as well turn the option off. Unfair voting will still be possible, if players exchange entry numbers, so as to vote for each other.

To avoid being suspected of unfair voting, done to affect the final results, it might be wise for the moderator to be the first to vote, when they already have to avoid being biased by knowing who the photographer of each photo is. I do not propose that they cannot vote, because that would mean one less voter out of the very limited number now.

Now this morning, after reading new comments.

Paolo, perhaps what you see when you are moderator is confusing you as to what other players can see when they vote. As explained above, the votes of others cannot be seen, even by the player who has locked their votes. In CWP and the other Panoramio games, have we worried that the first person to vote, whether moderator or not, affects how those that follow vote?

Bruno, please reply to me in private, and I will keep it confidential, as to who you suspect of voting in a way to deliberately attempt to change the final results.

If I write an update to stop the moderator from voting, and to not lose 1 point, then Daniela and I must also be stopped, as we have full access to all the data. If I remove the option to lock your votes, there are players who may be unhappy about it.

Save me the effort of writing the updates, testing, debugging, if the majority of you accept that the game can stay as it is.

I know how it is when you don't know what the others see. But I think it's better when everything stays at it is.

Per quanto riguarda il resto della discussione penso che un gioco deve solo divertire, a me piace molto non sapere chi voto, quando mi è capitato il piacere di moderare ho sempre votato per prima quindi nessun problema.

Thank you Petar, I think this topic will give us a selection of good photos, a relatively easy topic to take new photos for if required. I expect to be watching the sun rise and set each day, from a diving boat in the Red Sea, 2-11 February.

To what extent unfair voting has occurred, and whether it has seriously affected the final results, can be debated.
I think that the primary issue is the “suspicion” of unfair voting, that is damaging the game, and it would be bad for the game, with few players already, to follow through with accusations and whether to apply penalties.

So the “Lock my votes” option will be removed. The moderator, Daniela and myself will not be able to vote, but without the loss of a point.

To write the update, I have to wait for my pc to be returned with Win7 installed again, after file corruption prevented Windows from starting, and could not be repaired. So it is annoying to have to install and reconfigure a lot of applications again, but no problem to have the update in time for February voting.

I would prefer lo let it be as it is. We are already few people and with changes it's possible to lose more. Proper behaviour, that's what we need. I will wait and see if I can vote how it was until now or not.

Hi Steve, you have to think that we have to put 3 photos and maybe rocks is a too simple theme.

If it is to simple my next was "clouds" during the day time not sunset nor sunrise thats a whole different contest. I want a contest more can join in as well.

I find to simple clouds too. If it were only one photo not, but 3 photos... But please , do as you desire. You have to explain a bit more, in any case, or show some example. What do you mean for clouds? Only clouds, or part of a view with clouds? But you have time until the 15th to think and to propose.

"Landscapes with Clouds in the day light" there are all different types of clouds and Moods (Sunny, Storms, Rain) that way you should be able to get three different photos. Landscape can be country or the city but please keep the clouds as the major portion of the photo.

Niente a che vedere con il tema 'floral accomodation' del 11/2017 - Spero di avere una buona partecipazione di qualità : il mese scorso abbiamo raggiunto 41 immagini in concorso !

Ho pensato di proporre un tema dove nessun partecipante si possa sentire danneggiato o escluso :

alcuni temi,poco adatti, sono esclusi :
- tramonti
- notturni
- macro
- foto di interni
- ritratti
- post-elaborazioni
- black and white

altre informazioni, se necessarie, nel post di apertura di Panoramio Games

Also this month it's up to me to propose the new theme and to moderate the game -
I thought about proposing a theme where no participant could feel damaged or excluded:

light and shadows - a shot with strong contrasts between light and shadow

- interior photos
- portraits
- post-processing

Bene, però se veramente alcuni temi sono esclusi, e vengono ugualmente messe delle foto , vanno escluse veramente. questo mese era "balconi" e c'erano alcune finestre e nessuno ha fatto una piega! oppure non mettere nessuna limitazione!

Se ho messo delle limitazioni è per evitare che per premura o negligenza qualcuno metta foto di scarso interesse e quindi pochi voti !
Siamo solo in 12 a giocare...non possiamo essere troppo esigenti...pensa che uno non ha partecipato e mi ha scritto che nel Regno Unito non ci sono balconi e neppure fiori !
Il meglio è nemico del bene !

Senza dubbio Paolo avrai fatto le tue valutazioni per decidere il tema proposto,che penso sia una buona scelta, se non per le restrizioni che ci chiedi.
Sinceramente non ho capito che tipo di foto possano andare bene, se si considera che il bianco e nero sono foto essenziali per valorizzare le ombre e luci, ma come dici bene ...non possiamo essere troppo esigenti.
Forse intendi ....better few but good

vanno tutte bene le foto, escluse quelle che ho segnalato.
Non è necessario il B/N per esaltare le luci e le ombre, anzi quasi sempre le foto fatte a luce solare hanno il problema di equilibrare le luci e le ombre (pregio).

Ciao Paolo, premetto che foto di questo genere credo posso trovarne, ma sono d'accordo anch'io con Adriana e Franco. Per me a mio dodo soggettivo di pensare, in questo contest ci sono troppe limitazioni e non fanno altro che disincentivare i concorrenti. Se come dici tu vanno tutte bene le foto escluse quelle che ho segnalato " e poi perchè non a tema non vanno tolte perchè siamo già in pochi che senso ha mettere queste limitazioni, ciao buona giornata bruno

Come è possibile essere d'accordo con Adriana e Franco che hanno espresso due pareri opposti !!
A mio avviso le foto fuori tema vanno segnalate al concorrente e deve essere richiesta dal moderatore la sostituzione con qualche altra più idonea. Questo ho fatto spesso in passato e così farò questa volta . Non ho mai avuto intenzione di eliminare immagini dal concorso !
Con i balconi fioriti non ho ritenuto di cavillare troppo ( è sotto-inteso che balconi, finestre e davanzali possono essere considerati similari) Comunque nella top ten ci sono tutti davanzali fioriti.
Questa volta ho precisato che luci ed ombre nulla hanno a che vedere con B/N o tramonti dove spesso qualcuno si rifugia volentieri !
E' la terza edizione consecutiva che modero e siamo arrivati a 41 foto in concorso : risultato mai raggiunto.

Bruno dicevo proprio quello, non che ci sono troppe limitazioni, ma quelle che ci sono (poche o tante) vanno fatte rispettare altrimenti sembrano un po' i saldi di di fine stagione: Visto che non ho venduto (che siamo in pochi) ,svendo ( va bene tutto).

I think that Paolo has done an excellent job in choosing an international subject that we can all participate in regardless of where we live. Not the easiest of subjects which is good, it is indeed a challenge, the list of unsuitable subjects helps to ensure photos with a similar theme. As wonderful and useful the translator is you do sometimes have to guess what is exactly being said.
Just enjoy the competition and if a photo doesn't in your opinion exactly match the subject it did to the person taking it.

Ciao Paolo, ho visto che hai aperto il nuovo SPC e fra le tante clausole da te poste leggo pure -post elaborazioni - vorrei gentilmente chiederti come farai a verificare questo se un bravo fotografo non lo dichiara e tu non vedi i dati della foto ?....fiducia
Spero che nelle voto vincenti quando pubblicheranno le loro foto siano evidenti.

Ciao Paolo, scusa per riepilogare, al di là delle tue limitazioni, vanno bene dei contrasti evidenti di luce e non occorre vedere l'ombra di ciò che hai fotografato
