Top end of Woodhead Reservoir 10/7/23
Picture in picture shows there is some water left in the middle.
The low level has been of great benefit to a small number of wading birds that have bred successfully this year young chicks of Curlew, Lapwing, Oystercatcher, Little Ringed Plover and Common Sandpiper all seen this year. The wading birds success was probably also aided by the death of hundreds of Black-headed gulls (avian flu victims) meaning fewer predators for their chicks.

A great photo here of a spot that I know well. I am amazed how low the water is here, even after the heavy rain of these previous weeks. Quite a contrast from my own shot taken in April. Nice at least to hear that the waders are thriving.

Have a good weekend. Herb

yes it does look better full of water. I was caught in a heavy shower a few minutes before this photo. The seat in your photo was too wet to sit on!!

It will take quite a few month of continuous rain to fill that up again!
