It was the most numerous butterfly we saw doing a count over a 1km walk 42 seen with less than 10 each Meadow Brown, Small Skipper, Small White, Small Tortoiseshell and one failed ID (possibly a distant Painted Lady). Very low counts and no Gatekeeper which is the one we set out to find.

I visited a small nature reserve on Old Winchester Hill last week, a place which normally has large numbers of butterflies. We only stayed an hour or so, but all I saw were a few Marbled Whites and a couple of Painted Ladies........and most were too far away to get a decent shot. Very disappointing. I've seen very few in my garden yet this year either :-(
