Nicely done Colin.............I took some photos of Terns a day or so ago and they're not easy to catch in flight.

I am always at a loss at the best tactics for anything fast flying especially when they appear low with little warning. I didn’t take many and refrained from any continuous shutter use. I took around 40 and only 10 are really any good and even then some are too small in frame. Much more enjoyable to put the camera down and just look :-)

I should have taken a picture of the double scoop English Lakes Raspberry Ripple Ice cream you would have loved it. Colin

I use Continuous Auto Focus, and take multiple shots when I can...........I delete more than I keep every time. I have a 100-400mm zoom lens but it requires very good light for decent shots, otherwise I have to up the ISO to ridiculous numbers and of course then I get awful noise. It's always a compromise. There are better lenses but way out of my price range!

I got the lens nearly two years ago now..........and to be honest I struggle to get consistently good images. At the moment I wondering whether it's worth the aggro, but I'll keep trying over the summer months and see how I feel then.

Ooooh, that ice cream sounds delicious..!!

My now 5 years old 55-300mm is also a compromise but it is limited by the Pentax auto-focus which hunts about more than I would like. This despite trying some different options which include fast moving objects and limiting the sections of the lens it looks at to centre spot or a central grouping. The lens matches the camera as truly water/dust resistant which is good.

as you say in bright light it also does perform well enough.
