A lovely view across to the trees.............it's amazing how a fall of snow changes the landscape!

No snow for us down in the far south though.................just rain.

I remember a first-class cricket match in the snow in June. Buxton I think, sometime in the mid 70s?

Yes that was Buxton 1976 Derbyshire and Lancashire . I just found a photo in Dickie Bird’s autobiography. He was the Umpire and the photo shows him with some Lancashire players including David Lloyd who is testing the surface in the manner of a race horse trainer testing the going. It was obvious all white but just a light covering.

1976 turned out to be one the hottest Summers on record.

Yes, I remember that photo!
It was also the summer of Tony Grieg's fateful 'grovel' remark and magnificent cricket by Richards, Greenidge, Holding, et al. I also remember the brave rearguard batting of Close and Edrich (R.I.P.). I also used to queue up behind John Edrich in an American-style burger joint (NOT Wimpey!) in Cheam as he returned home from matches at The Oval around that time. Seems like yesterday!

That was a wonderful West Indies team. My Dad took me to one of the days ( it must have been day 2 ) of the Trent Bridge test Viv Richards was finally out caught right in front of us but he had scored 232 by then. In those days you could wander out on to the outfield at the break and I remember trying to step the marks made by Mike Hendrick’s run up, it was nearly three of mine!
