Meersburg - Altes Schloss

Meersburg - Altes Schloss
Das Alte Schloss in Meersburg gilt als die älteste noch bewohnte Burg Deutschlands. Von der Bausubstanz aus dem 7.Jh. ist allerdings nichts mehr übrig geblieben. Erstmalig urkundlich erwähnt wurde die Burg 1147. Die Gründung und frühe Geschichte bleiben jedoch weitgehend vage, was die historischen Quellen angeht. Wen die diversen Belagerungen und Zerstörungen interessierten, der lese bitte den Wikipedia-Arrikel. Bis heute ist die Burg in Privatbesitz und beherbergt ein nettes kleines Museum. Und natürlich die Wohnräume der Besitzerfamilie.

It's certainly a beautiful building, but years of renewal and restoration have robbed it of it's castle looks. It is especially lovely in the sunshine and I expect it's a wonderful place to live.

Wonderful historical building Ulrich, It must be difficult to keep it in private ownership as running costs and maintenance must be enormous. Better to hand it over to a National Trust who would maintain and market it to ensure it is there for generations to come.
