Total lunar eclipse
As I noted with my late night posting last night, we had a total lunar eclipse. This would be the longest I've seen, with the moon in total eclipse almost 1.5 hours and the overall event 5.5 hours! The moon became very dark indeed - this has the brightness boosted (check the ISO). Photos from the before and after are in the PiPs. View full screen.
It seems this will be the last total lunar eclipse to be seen anywhere until 2025.

Into eclipse as the moon rises
Tonight's full moon, going into eclipse as it rises above some nearby trees. In the PiP, another shot taken slightly later without the trees.
More images tomorrow, but it's now very late at night here.
Bega Bench
Bega, in the distance at the left of this panorama, is a town on the south coast of New South Wales in Australia. With far more rain than usual this year, the area is remarkably green.
Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow,
Ninety Mile Beach
The name suggests that this stretch of beach is ninety miles long. This view is looking east, the PiP shows the view to the west. Australia now uses metric numbers, so maybe it should now be called "One hundred and forty four kilometres" beach, but that doesn't sound as well. :-)
A wide HFF across the lake
A wide view across the pedestrian bridge over the Cunningham Arm of the Gippsland Lakes at Lakes Entrance. This comes up well when viewed large.
Happy Fence Friday and have a great weekend, everyone.

Gippsland Lakes #2

Quokka portraits
Quokkas are small macropod animals, related to kangaroos and wallabies, and found in south-western Australia. Sadly, their numbers have been greatly depleted by land development and feral animals. Rottnest Island is where most are now found and they are quite relaxed about being around people - hence this portrait (and PiP).
I'm heading away for a while and likely to be largely offline for about a week. Best wishes, everyone.
