The Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel
The (former) Royal Hotel, built in 1883, was one of three hotels in Birdsville. It transferred to the Australian Inland Mission for use as a hospital from 1923 until 1937, then it was used as a private residence for some years. More extensive background information in the PiP.

I'd be surprised if any Royals ever visited, but "Royal" is a reasonably common name for hotels here for some reason.

Ants...I'll have to think about that. As long as they don't bite!! And reptiles...well, the hotel management didn't mention them. I'll have to sue them or ask for a considerable refund ;-)))

Hi Edna and Xata, I've checked and found that the only direct international airline connection to Birdsville is Tiger Moth Airlines (see image below), but unfortunately they're not taking bookings at present. I'll keep checking and see what I can arrange.

What I find amazing is the fact that you can still recognize the sign "Royal Hotel"! After what I read, it was built in 1883 and a hotel for 40 years (so only until 1923)... HFF George.
