Duyfken replica
After the Dutch East India Company (VOC) displaced the Portuguese from the East Indies, the original Duyfken officially became the first European vessel to visit the Australian coast in 1606, sailing along the south coast of New Guinea to reach Cape York in Australia's north. This replica of the Duyfken is now in the Maritime Museum in Sydney.

Of course, it is very possible that there may have been earlier European visitors, as I outline in this Article I posted some time ago.

Must get to this museum one day....

Northern Australia also had many visits from what is now Indonesia and Malaysia yet the original inhabitants appear to have learnt little or nothing from any of the visits. Nor was was their truly amazing returning boomerang shared. Imagine if Leonardo da Vinci and other early designers of flying machines had known of it.

It's extraordinary what the early mariners were able to achieve in such small ships, let alone the risks of scurvy and fever. Their skill, determination and resourcefulness demand respect. It looks much narrower than I would have expected. I've just finished a book about Barentsz and his ill-fated expeditions to find a North-East passage to China over the top of Russia (the book is called "Icebound"). I guess his ships must have been similar to this.
