After the Dutch East India Company (VOC) displaced the Portuguese from the East Indies, the original Duyfken officially became the first European vessel to visit the Australian coast in 1606, sailing along the south coast of New Guinea to reach Cape York in Australia's north. This replica of the Duyfken is now in the Maritime Museum in Sydney. Of course, it is very possible that there may have been earlier European visitors, as I outline in this Article I posted some time ago.
