MARVELOUS!!! I'm so happy to see another picture of these darling and ever-so-fashionable birds! In fact, I showed Steve the portrait shot of the pair, he was suitably impressed, of course! :D

I really like the view in this picture, it must be viewed large to appreciate to its fullest. Really nice. It reminds me of the slew of wild flamingo pictures I took in France last April...I will get to them...gotta share some of those so you can see too! :)

Thanks for this inspirational picture, it's so cool to see the colony, and now I just GOTTA get in there and show you a colony of flamingos...sometime in the next week!

Lots of chicks there! Their relatives, the arctic terns, are extremely aggressive, if these have similar behaviour you were really brave!

I'm glad to say that these are totally safe, Gudrun. I shall watch out for the Arctic variety though!

They need time to migrate from Antarcitca and won't have arrived yet;-) When breeding they attack your head, in Iceland I once had to walk holding my rucksack over my head...

We have numerous species of terns here, but they're really hard to identify from a distance. I've just checked my bird book and see that the Arctic Tern is described as a "rare visitor" and usually seen offshore from April to December. I'll be watching out for them though, on our trip north.
