The five metre rule #1

Antarctic tour operators warn tourists not to approach closer than five metres to wildlife, to avoid disturbance. But nobody has told the penguins about that rule and, besides, they cannot count! So, with the Royal Penguins at Macquarie Island, it is simply a matter of remaining stationary and they will come to investigate. :)
Other photos in notes above. Sadly, human interaction with the penguins was not always so enlightened (see third note - caution, may be distressing)

I love this picture and the unclickable image sooooooo much, what I would GIVE to be sitting on a beach with all those little monsters waddling around me?! :D LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! *cooooooooooooooooooooo*
The second picture reminds me of what Steve and I do when we go scuba diving at a "fish nursery" where all the fry grow up. We will make our way into the lovely coral-filled area and sink to the sandy bottom, knees down. Holding hands and breathing slowly for less bubbles and less intrusion, we will wait until a minute or two later, all the fish come out from where they hid in fright at our arrival. Suddenly it's a world full of colorful fish swimming everywhere while we relax for 10-15 minutes in total bedazzlement, enjoying the unbelievable show before us, guests in this watery paradise. The sun twinkles through the water and sparkles on the fish and any shiny surface, and we watch fish swimming right past our faces and nibbling at our wetsuits. What a wonderful experience this is. And how nice it must have been to sit on that beach and have penguins come up to investigate when they could see there was no danger. Fabulous! :)
